Exploring the Gippsland Lakes in 1882
Paynesville Maritime Museum

This booklet was published in Sale around 1882 for the Lakes Navigation Company who owned three steamers based at the Port of Sale.

Designed to entice the discerning traveller, 'The Tourist's and Sportsman's Guide to the Gippsland Lakes' presents a vivid snapshot of all the main ports of call: Sale, Bairnsdale, Paynesville, Metung, Lakes Entrance and Bruthen. It provides an accurate account of the developing towns and an understanding of life at the time.

As original copies of the booklet are rare, this facsimile has been published in response to the growing interest in the maritime history of the region.

This publication is for fund raising purposes and is available at a cost of $15.00. All proceeds will go towards the development of a maritime museum at Paynesville.
